Giant Sequoia
>Sequoiadendron giganteum

Largest tree in the world, by mass.

The General Sherman Tree in Sequoia National Park is the largest living organism on Earth. It weighs 2.7 million pounds and is 275 feet tall. Scientists believe it is over 2,100 years old.

Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks feature the five largest living giant sequoia trees in the world.

The oldest living tree, a relative of the Sequoia, is a bristlecone pine called Methuselah, its over 4,770 years old. The Methuselah is not marked or identified to tourists, because the park service believes if its identity was known, it would be vandalized and destroyed.

The diameter of the Sequoia reaches forty feet.

Sequoia sempervirens

The worlds most evil tree is the Manchineel Tree, Hippomane mancinella, of the West Indies. This tree exudes an extremely poisonous sap that was once used to poison arrows. Contact between the sap and eyes can blind a person, and one bite of the fruit results in intense pain and unusual blisters.

The diameter of these trees reaches up to twenty two feet.

Tallest living trees in the world

Four of the six tallest trees in the world are coastal redwoods.

The tallest tree in the world is called the Stratosphere Giant. It is over 369 feet tall.

It is believed that in 1912, lumbermen cut down a tree of 380 feet.
