Where the ground under American life is giving way

Fault Lines

A fault line is where the ground gives way. Most of the time you can’t see it. Then something moves, and the land on one side no longer lines up with the land on the other.

This section is where I document those breaks in American life: political violence and the rhetoric behind it, the force a government turns on its own people, and the distance between what leaders say and what the record shows. Like everything on Notes from the Road, it is built on fieldwork and evidence. Every claim is sourced, and every record is kept current.
